How To Maintain Leather Furniture

What better way to make your house feel like a home than with the addition of a few great pieces of leather furniture? It can definitely be an investment, but if taken care of properly, leather furniture can last for years.
We, at Leather Care Supply have put together a few pieces of advice on how to maintain your leather furniture. If you follow the tips and tricks listed below, your furniture is guaranteed to look like it was just brought home from the store

What You Should Be Doing

Cleaning and Conditioning
Similar to hair, leather needs be cleaned and conditioned in order to look its best.
Over time, leather furniture accumulates body oils, perspiration, dirt, and more. Even if you can't see impurities on your furniture, you can bet its there.
The best thing you can do to rid your furniture or dirt, grime, and stains is to clean and condition it weekly. We have a variety of leather furniture conditioners and cleansers to choose from at Leather Care Supply, our most popular being the Apple Brand Leather Care Kit.This kit will supply you with a cleaner, conditioner, and cleaning cloth that is easy to use and made for all types of leather. First, use the cleaner to wipe away all the unwanted dirt and stains. Once dry, finish with the conditioner to give your upholstery a look of rejuvenation.

Cover It Up

If you’re not a fan of cleaning and conditioning your leather furniture or simply don’t have enough time in the day, consider covering your upholstery with a sheet.

When you are not using your furniture, keeping it covered is the best way to protect it from collecting dirt and dust. A lightweight sheet can also preserve the original color of your furniture by shielding it from the sunlight. As beautiful and aesthetically pleasing as it is to have a room that is lit perfectly by the sun, its effects can also be damaging to your leather furniture by drying and fading it out.

Dust Frequently

During your weekly cleaning, give your furniture a once over with a dust rag. If you’re feeling extra ambitious, pull out the vacuum and work in between and under the cushions to get rid of any hidden crumbs or dirt and dust particles.

Don't Do This

The worst thing you can do to your leather furniture is neglect. If you don’t properly care for your leather furniture, it will not last half as long as it would if you maintained it regularly.

Forget To Check

You should never forget to conduct a spot check before using a new cleaning product on your leather upholstery.

If you forget to check, you are risking the chance of further staining your leather. To avoid discoloring your furniture, test out the new product on an area of the leather that is easily hidden from plain sight, like the back bottom corner. Let the product settle for a few minutes and check to see if it had any negative effects on the leather.

Let Stains Settle

If you accidently spill any liquids on the upholstery, clean it up immediately. Simply use a damp cloth to blot away the stain.

Unfortunately, a wet cloth won’t fix a grease or oil stain. We recommend using Saphir Reno Mat Leather Cleaner and Stain Remover for any tough stains.
If you follow these simple rules, your leather furniture will last you a long time. We, at Leather Care Supply, have all the products you need to keep your furniture looking its best.
